It is very usual for me to hear this a lot on the first consultation. The artificial-looking results that are often associated to a nose surgery or rhinoplasty are mainly due to old techniques that sadly are still performed today by many surgeons.
It is very usual for me to hear this a lot on the first consultation. The artificial-looking results that are often associated to a nose surgery or rhinoplasty are mainly due to old techniques that sadly are still performed today by many surgeons.
Fortunately for the
patient, the current tendency is to avoid every sign of surgery, for nobody to
find out that they have had surgery, for the results to be natural and
proportional to the result of your face. To my understanding, good results are
the ones that keep the surgeon in anonymity.
The best techniques
to achieve good results are the ones that are conservative at the moment of
removing cartilage or bone, so we not only obtain natural results, but also
maintain a good breathing function. What is most important is that we will
achieve results that are predictable at long-term.
What do I mean by
predictable? Basically that with the passing of time the nose will not change,
that the results obtained in the first months do not get worse. This point in
unskilled hands, or with the use of old or aggressive techniques with the
cartilages or the nasal bones is very common, and it is sad to see how the nose
becomes uglier day by day, condemning the patient to a second intervention to
correct a first bad surgery.
Being conservative is
the best road to achieving good results in a rhinoplasty. Let us not forget
that what really is beautiful is what looks natural, harmonic, and balanced
with the other parts of the patient's face.
Another important
point to keep in mind is that in order to obtain natural results, it is not
only enough to know the correct surgical technique, but the most important
point is surgeon's ability to perform a technique skillfully enough for the
results to be as artistic as possible.
It can sound somewhat
corny, but the key in rhinoplasty is combining science and art. As a surgeon, I
consider that good results are a work of art that not all surgeons have the
ability to do, because good surgeons usually have an artistic talent that will
differentiate them from the rest of the specialists.
